Things You Should Know Before You Buy

Have you ever purchased an electronic item to have it go out a day or two after the warranty expired? By that time, the retailer won't allow you to return the item. You try calling the manufacturer's customer support line and get the runaround for weeks and sometimes months. After finally talking to a supervisor/manager, you only find that they want to charge you an arm and a leg for shipping and labor fees and that you won't see your device for months! Take it from someone who's worked directly with warranties and repairs for major companies: Vizio, Sony, Magnavox, Sylvania, Emerson, Durabrand and more. It is important, when making electronic purchases, to understand a few things before you buy.


#1. Research before you buy! Do NOT make an impulse purchase. Just because the device costs more, doesn't mean it is better. Same is true for items that look like a great deal. Upon searching the internet, you'll be surprised to know which products and models get the most complaints.

#2. Know the retailer's deadline for returns and exchanges. Find out if you need the receipt in order to return or exchange electronic items. If the device breaks within their deadline, you can take your device to the store to get your money back or exchange it for the same item or better product. Why give yourself a headache by calling the manufacturer? Save your time and most of all- money!

#3. Do NOT take the sales associate's word. Usually, they just want to make a sale. The manufacturer's warranty is usually void when purchasing a floor model. It will not cover a missing remote! Also, most manufacturer warranties are void when the device is purchased as a gift. The warranty will cover a first purchase only- that means the original buyer with a receipt.
